HBF Beirut: International Symposium „Global Cities and Dislocated Citizenship“
Scholars from the Middle East, Europe and the US will meet in Beirut in December, 2005, at an international symposium to discuss the repercussions of globalization on the concept of citizenship.

The forum will focus on the growing presence of non-nationals in existing and emerging hubs of globalization and the implied challenges to established principles of citizenship rights and duties, accountability and representation and the related legal systems.

The aim is to include as many studies about the Middle East as possible, especially newer research on the Emirates and the Gulf, but also present findings from other regions of the world in order to support a comparative perspective on the topic.

The symposium is part of the programme "cultural globalization", organized by the HBF middle-east office in Beirut, is to analyze the impacts of globalization on culture. Impulses from the cultural sphere to shape globalization are also supported.
